Review: Revenge is hardly a new concept in film. This is the main theme here, however, takes a back seat to style execution of the oven. Said by all-star, story unfolds slowly but strongly. Located in the countryside, modern America, cinematography captures beautiful country and the glory that seemed to fade under the weight of war and the economy. Skill specific expressed different characters creating credibility and giving them a rare level of depth. This makes the atmosphere sensitive and possibly cause human element real star of the movie theater. All the actors are great and important, but Christian Bale and Woody Harrelson absolutely steals the show. How bad script villain-in-the-bone Harrelson is surprisingly low, his mere presence on the screen inciting trouble. On the other hand, Bale plays nice man, but troubled, doomed to watch his life fall apart one piece at a time. Got director, Scott Cooper, in an interview with Carson Daly segment. He noted a desire to influence and immerse the audience in his films. In this regard, I would like to judge this effort to be an unqualified success. In some scenes, I found myself repeating the actions and emotions described on the screen, for example, fear, release, anxiety, tension, and, especially, free breath of rest. Furthermore action drama tone for me was reminiscent of The Place Beyond the Pines, another well-made drama with some flavor crime. I also felt that the amount of Pearl Jam, which opens and closes the film was an excellent choice for the proposed atmosphere, and deserves special mention. Overall, this film is very well done, despite the lack of glamor and flash action flick. In drama, I highly recommend it to fans of the genre.
